Good luck! I have noticed before how written Norwegian is sometimes amazingly similar to Dutch and surprisingly easy to understand as a result, spoken not so much... and I don't know if it works the other way around.

Ja, many words are very similar in Norwegian and Dutch, especially basic words (melk=melk, zwart=svart/sort, land=land, zoon=sønn, strand=strand, brood=brød, altijd=alltid) but the pronouncication and sentence-structure is (most) often different.

For example, "land" is pronounced "lant" in Dutch. In (standard) Norwegian it is pronounced "lann", with pressure on the "n".
(In the Norwegian writing-system, double consonants means that the vowel in front of them is pronounced quickly, so it should be spelled "lannd", but three consonants in a row is never allowed. The "d" was pronounced in the past, so if I'm putting on a hoity-toity archaic dialect I'd pronounce the "d").

ik kom oorspronkelijk uit Duitsland maar ik woon al vele jaren in Engeland.

Frans spreek ik sinds mijn schooltijd. Ik ben een grote fan van franse films, vooral uit de jaren '60 en '70.

Op de uni heeb ik wat Pools geleerd, sinds vier maanden leer ik nu ook Nederlands / Vlaams. U kunt zien dat ik talen leuk vind, en dat zij in de loop van de jaren een belangrijk hobby zijn geworden.

Dit is een fantastisch forum, ik ben helemaal blij, dat ik het heb gevonden. Ik verheug mij op vele debaten met u, en u moet niet aarzelen om mijn fouten te corrigeren. Ik heb nog veel verbetering nodig
