Reading Dutch books

Hallo allemaal!

Recently I've received 3 Dutch books for my birthday, since my friend knows that I'm learning Dutch. I've been studying Dutch for about 5 months, and my level is not above the basics, but I think this will be a great experience and that it'll help me so much!

Have you guys ever read a Dutch book with a dictionary on the side? Did you succeed? Wasn't it boring, or overwhelming in some way after some time?

I always found it too overwhelming to read such long texts thoroughly with a dictionary. When I wanted to do extensive reading, I'd stick to a longer news article. I used books for extensive reading though: I only looked up the words that were essential to the story, or that interested me particularily
