Twintig Vragen - Deel 6

Postby Tom » February 10th, 2006, 8:37 pm

Het is gewoon spul.
It is ordinary stuff (i.e. a thing).

No, I meant to say exactly what I said.

By saying that it is ordinary stuff, at least in American English, I was trying to give
a clue (indirectly) as to what not to try to guess.

I would not consider a chicken, a mountain, or a building being stuff.
I would consider groceries, tomato sauce, dust and things like that to be stuff.

Maybe the Dutch equivalent that I chose does not have the same subtle meaning.
Joke, is there a better way to phrase that? I might have be too presumtuous to think that
a literal translating took on the other shades of meaning. That doesn't always happen.

Also, the  is a subtle clue as well.

...

Back to the game.

Wel, het spul komt van een plant.
Well, this stuff comes from a plant.

Dus - Ik zal ja zeggen.
So - I'll say yes.

Ok, I understand.
Yes, 'spul' is the best word for this kind of stuff.

I would ask if it is illegal - but I won't!

Lets narrow it down a bit - Can you drink it?

It is often served as a hot drink.

VOF De Kunst heeft een liedje erom.
