Is de bedoeling hier dat er twee niveaus van de korte vrijstellingstoets bestaan: de basistoets en een hogere?
Dit neem ik aan door de "verder". Vergis ik me niet?

Het woordje verder heeft denk ik geen betekenis. Nogal ambtelijk taalgebruik wellicht ....
De KVT is een taaltoets. (niveau B1)
Het inburgeringsexamen is niet alleen een taaltoets ( op het lagere A2-niveau), maar ook een training en toetsing in het kunnen functioneren in Nederland: je moet bijvoorbeeld een toets doen "Kennis van de Nederlandse Samenleving", en je moet laten zien dat je in staat bent om aangifte te doen van een geboorte, diefstal etc.; ook moet je een strippenkaart en postzegels kunnen kopen. Van deze competenties moet je bewijzen verzamelen die je in een portfolio moet stoppen. Het inburgeringsexamen is ontwikkeld en bedoeld voor mensen die maximaal drie jaar voortgezet onderwijs hebben gehad in hun eigen land.

Hi there, I am new on this forum (and a bit slow when writing Dutch - so my posts will be done in English). I just took today the Korte Vrijstellingstoets and wanted to share my experience. While preparing for it myself, I found very little feedback from people that actually took the test. All below is based on my experience so please take it as such - for other people it could be (slightly) different.

The basics:
you will need indeed a valid ID to enter the exam room - they will check this about 3-4 times (and you are requested to leave it on the desk all through the exam).
be on time - if they start with the explanation of the exam (first 15 min) you cannot join this exam anymore.
no need to bring anything with you (except ID) - you are not allowed and do not have time to use a notepad for instance
the result of the exam will be sent to you in max 4 weeks from the exam date (but most probably in 2 weeks)

The exam logistics:
the duration of the exam is 45 min.
When you have 15 min left you will get a warning on the screen. The same when you have 1 min left.
If you run out of time, the computer will save the current status of your exam and will close the exam - so you cannot go longer than 45 min
All answered questions are clearly marked - so you know every time which ones you answered, which ones not and where you are
You can navigate through the questions (back, forth, or jump to a specific question)
You will use a headphone since many of the questions have a video/audio part (for giving context)

The questions:
I had 28 questions (and I hear that the umber and type was different by candidate)
The subjects in my case were around:
New child - what will happen in his first week (get a blood test and check the child hearing)
Vaccination of a small child - what is the effect (unrest, crying etc.. and high fever) and what to do about it as parent
When to go to the Consultatie bureau with a small child (when he cries a lot for instance)
Work - how is the vakbond helping the workers (by providing advies on work matters and negotiate the CAO)
CAO - what it is
New house - why to use a makelaar, where you sign the buying contract
Neighbors - what permit you need if you want to enlarge your schuur in the garden ?
How you react when 2 neighbors are fighting on the street (do you call the police, get between them or ask two other guys to help you stop the fight)
How do you react if you bother a neighbor big time (your schuur went on fire so the neighbor where afraid their house will catch fire too) - basically you apologize and promise this will not happen again opposite of saying that you do not care on their concern or it is not their business what happen to your schuur.
How do you react if you notice that your neighbor wears a very short dress in her garden or 2 young people are kissing in public or you find out that your neighbors are actually not married

Conclusion:
In my experience, the exam is really focussed at 3 directions:
1. Understanding written text
2. Understanding audio fragments (conversations)
3. Extract the correct information from the text or audio and match it with the best presented answer

Sometimes you get on the screen a large portion of text that you need to read and understand pretty fast.

Again they are really only testing listening and reading - NOT writing or speaking. And the good news is that 99.9% of the information that you need to pick the right answer is given to you in the question context (written or audio).

Finally my advice is to practice your listening and reading skills so you are quick to absorb the context information during the exam. As for the NL culture knowledge (in my case the questions were pretty straightforward) I suggest the "Kom Verder" book and the 3 training exams they have for sale on their site (10 Euro for 3 exams of 70 questions each).

When I was advised by the IND that I had to pass the KVT, since I only went to school in the Netherlands for 6 years, I could not find any valuable information neither from the Dutch Embassy nor from the IND itself.

Your post is most valuable and precise in detail. I have bought the book “Kom verder” and the 3 training exams.
Very good indeed. Thank you. It gives me the possibility to enhance my Dutch knowledge.
