If you have any plans to move to Holland or if you have already settled there, this is the place to discuss the Inburgeringsexamen ('integration' exam for immigrants), NT2 (Dutch as a second language), and studying at Flemish or Dutch schools and universities.

Well I have been living here for 22 years, and I have had several different dutch class's so my dutch is pretty good. But after 22 years the IND have decided to send me a letter that I will need to do the inburgerings exam! When I said I have had many classes in Dutch they gave me till the end of the week to prove it with my diploma's!! well I can tell you my diploma's were buried in storage and have been there for years, so I couldn't come up with the in time, now I have to take the class. Oh BTW... I had to help the woman who evaluated me with her dutch, as she was an alloctonen. Here is a site I put up, have a look if you like: http://www.in2holland.netFrank.

Hi Frank, welcome. Good to hear you have been living here for 22 years, I guess you must enjoy it? As they say, 'shit happens'.. If your Dutch is good, perhaps you can write the message in Dutch next time, to help you (and others reading it) practise your Dutch for your exam. Oh BTW... I had to help the woman who evaluated me with her dutch, as she was an alloctonen.
I assume you mean 'allochtoon' ? (the opposite being 'autochtoon' by the way) 2al·loch·toon de; m,v -tonen iem die van elders afkomstig is http://www.vandale.nl/vandale/opzoeken/ ... allochtoonGroetjes, - Jazzed -

Hey Jazzed, Yes I enjoy living here ~ time flies when you having fun. Now I have a Canadian partner over from the Toronto area living with me and the girls, so we both have to get with the program and integrate. Dutch is the mother tongue of my four daughters, however, they can speak English well. Thanks for the spell correction, you know those two words, 'allochtoon' & 'autochtoon' are sparely used by myself, I remember when that wasn't used as much, and for the majority, 'buitenlander' was used. Okay is Dutch the preferred language of these forums? If so I don't mind, I'll keep to the rules Frank. http://www.in2holland.net

Good to hear, I am sure they do! Thanks for the spell correction, you know those two words, 'allochtoon' & 'autochtoon' are sparely used by myself, I remember when that wasn't used as much, and for the majority, 'buitenlander' was used.
No problem. Yes these words change every so often, depending on the 'fashion' and the 'zeitgeist'/ sign of the times I suppose. Actually 'allochtoon' now sometimes has a bit of a derogative connotation as I imagine you might be aware of, but really the word just means 'of foreign origin' i.e. not native. Okay is Dutch the preferred language of these forums? If so I don't mind, I'll keep to the rules Frank. http://www.in2holland.net
Not sure if 'preferred language' is the right term for it, as people who don't speak Dutch obviously can ask or say anything in English as well. However this is a forum used for learning and practising Dutch, and many people read the forum to practise and learn the language, yes. As I thought it would/could be an added bonus to you, as you have to do the exam , I suggested this. However it is up to you, there is no obligation of course. groetjes, - Jazzed -
